“The joy of living is the theme of A.A.’s Twelfth Step, and action is its key word.”
Critical to the healing path of everyone involved, is to let go of the addict and stop being the enabler. Your response might be…”How am I enabling them?”
It’s not your place or helpful to their or your journey, to continue to make excuses and/or be damage control for them. They must make their own choice to leave the addiction and discover a new way of living through attending AA meetings, finding a sponsor and doing the 12 Step Program to Recovery.
You didn’t cause it. You can’t control it. You can’t cure it.
What you can do is… you can become empowered by doing your own program, that gives you tools for life to be used in all your affairs. You can also focus on being responsible for yourself and setting appropriate boundaries.
When you stop making the addict the focus of your attention, and do the 12 Step Program for yourself, you will discover a new way of living, too.
